- Natalie- Natalie is a teenager that lives on a farm with her mother and father. She is very fond of her goat, Nuisance and her best friend's name is Meredith. Natalie talks about how Meredith is the only friend she can really rely on. In the first chapter of Blindsided, Natalie is slowly losing her eye sight. I have observed how strong Natalie really is as she undergoes this sudden change. At first, she wants to keep her eye sight problems from her parents and friends because she doesn't want to worry them. The only person she talks to is her little goat. She trys as hard as she can to be brave and cope with her emotions, but it is not easy since she is in high school. Natalie is a smart girl who likes to write and hang around her farm. Everything she does is bright and beautiful, which makes this expierience even harder for her. Ever since she was little, she had seen the world with vibrant with imaginative eyes. Now she can see herself going blind, and that slow process is tearing her down. She becomes tortured of the pain of watching her eye sight crumble in front of her. She loves being able to see the world, but never really thought about losing it. In the book, Natalie is now being sent to a special boarding school to learn the skills needed to be blind. It must be really hard to walk away from family and friends as you slowly go blind. Still, Natalie is being very brave about the entire situation. She hasn't let her emotions get the best of her, but being without her family and friends in a new school will be a large challange to take on, even for a brave Natalie.
- Natalie's Mother and Father- Both Natalie's mother and father are struggling with Natalie's disability. Natalie's Mother is trying to be brave and practical to protect her daughter. She sent Natalie to a boarding school so that Natalie will be able to deal with this situation with other people in the same position instead of on a farm, not being able to see the beautiful rolling hills and cute animals. She wants the best for her daughter. Natalie's father is in denial. He doesn't know what to believe. He has seen his daughter feeding the animals, getting good grades, and writing poems. He can't understand why this is happening and how.
