There is a time for everything and eventually things will get done the way they are supposed to. I believe that everything happens for a reason. When one door closes, a grander one opens. There is no bad luck or good luck in life. There are bumps along our journey that are eventually paved over time. Time is a gift given by God, it is special and unlike any other gift. That is what this poem below, Time Marches On,shows us. Time will run out when it wants to. This statement is also clearly given in The Timekeeper. Both the poem, written by Bill Hoeneveld, and this book, written by Mitch Album, show how precious time is. It is a limited gift filled with moment, that should be spent to the fullest with family and friends. The poem shows that time goes on no matter what people have trouble with that, including Dor, Sarah Lemon, and Victor Delamonte. Cancers form and relationships end, yet the world is not over, you are still breathing and time is still ticking.
The Timekeeper, written by Mitch Albom, is a riveting story that teaches all readers the true effects of time. The three predominant characters, Sarah Lemon, Victor Delamonte, and Dor all have trouble seeing the true meaning of what time is. They believe that it is pertinent to every situation, every moment, every day, every breath. That is what most people spend time doing; worrying about time. The characters have different perspectives of time whether it is too short for the dying Victor Delamonte, or too long for the victimized Sarah Lemon. Dor, who becomes Father Time after being the first one to measure time, after 6,000 years of contemplating his own fate of time, shows the two strangers, Victor and Sarah, what time really is; many moments. They realize that they have spent too much time planning for another lifetime and saddened over boys that they have lost touch of the people that really care for them, Grace and Lorraine. Overall, The Timekeeper is an engrossing story that leads you to the overall message that time is taken advantage of. As William Penn once beautifully said, "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst."
Question: What do you think about Victor and Grace's relationship? What do you think will occur with their relationship over the course of the book?
Quote: Victor thinks about the doctor. There's not much more we can do. What does that mean? Months? Weeks? Is this the end of him?" We met many new characters throughout the first few chapters that made the book become even more vivid than it already was. We first met Father Time. He sat in a cave, old and haggard with a long, grey beard dripping from his wrinkled chin. Then, we see Alli, Dor, and Nim. They come from a long time ago. We first see them as children, running through vast fields. Then we meet the older versions of Alli, Dor, and Nim. Alli and Dor end up married with three children and Dor made the first sundial. Nim became a king and acquired many slaves. Dor and Nim became very different people, but still remembered their wonderful childhood. The other person we met is Sarah Lemon. She is a teenage girl who lives with her mother because her dad left. She believes she does not have enough time as she races through the night, getting ready to meet a boy. Lastly, we met an older, rich man named Victor Delamonte. He has a tumor, but wishes to live forever. His wife, Grace, wants to help him by getting him a wheel chair. Though all these characters have a perspective on time, nothing will ever speed up or slow down time.
Mitch Album creatively opened up The Timekeeper with a different style. We went through all different time periods all in a few pages, which was interesting to read. We first flashed forward and met the Father of Time. We then met characters that had trouble dealing with their time. It was amazing that in just a few minutes I was able to grasp several diverse perspectives of time. The dynamics and measures of time were presented in such a unique way. This format certainly helped us understand the novel's format for future reference. I especially love how Mitch Albom used adjectives to describe what time frame each character was from. This beginning was very effective for me.
Time is filled with moments. It is up to you whether you waste your time or not. I believe that everyone should cherish the moments we have on earth and spend each minute wisely. Life does not last forever. You have to remember to spend it doing what you love. Yes, there are some things we must do in life including homework, but a part of our time on earth is to learn. So everyone must remember, do what you will proudly look back on because repeating mistakes over and over is not worth your time...
